What changed on 1 May 2026

Landlords in England can no longer ask for more than one month's rent in advance. That removes the old workaround (six months upfront) that many international staff used. Referencing, employer letters and guarantors now decide who gets the flat. If you have an NHS contract, you have most of what you need.
